As an adult, I have experimented and enjoyed so many different artistic endeavors. I expose myself to as many creative venues that I can find to keep my muse singing. I belong to the Columbia Gorge Polymer Clay Guild, the Portland Bead Society, occasional knitting group member and am a board member of the Depot Dolls. Polymer clay has been an interest of mine for several years. I have a background in sculptural ceramics and this was an easy transition. You can create with color and the spontaneity of oven baking provides so many possibilities! Beads in natural form and glass have fascinated me from the earliest of memories. I was about six when I figured out how to bend a staple in the middle, put a bead or two on it, and pinch it on my earlobe to make fake pierced earrings. I thought I was so clever! My Mom had so many beautiful necklaces and each one took me to a far away place with a story waiting for me to imagine. I have been sewing my own clothes for over 20 years and have a good size “leftovers” bin. I started creating soft sculpture dolls about around 1994 as a way to use up some of my beautiful fabric scraps. I wanted to create dolls that had personality and character and color - lots of color! The first time I saw the work of Elinor Peace Bailey…I knew I found my inspiration. My dolls are a fun and different way for me to express feelings and thoughts. I love to show people what I make and do. I love jewelry, (thank you, Mom) and finding ways to put together accessories to go with the clothes and dolls that I create. Art Clay Silver combines two of my passions: ceramics and jewelry. I love teaching Art Clay classes. I am so enchanted with this medium and want to share it with as many people as possible! |

It
was obvious to my Mom that I was born to be an artist. My Mom’s makeup drawer
was a treasure trove to me…though Mom was not too happy with the results of my
joyful expression. My enthusiasm for color and texture appeared all over the
walls, floor, cupboard doors, mirrors, myself, as well as my poor twin brother.
I was blessed with her encouragement and guided towards other, less damaging and
messy mediums.
